One of the older residential neighbourhoods to the west of downtown, Woodbrook was once a sugar estate owned by the Siegert family, and it was sold to the Town Board in 1911. In the last twenty years the two main east-west thoroughfares Ariapita Avenue and Tragarete Road have become almost entirely commercialised with Ariapita Avenue being the city's dining and entertainment "strip".
